IWM Duxford - Nr Cambridge

Imperial War Museum (IWM) - Duxford

Imperial War Museum Duxford in Cambridgeshire is Britain's largest aviation museum. Duxford houses the Imperial War Museum's large exhibits, including nearly 200 aircraft, military vehicles, artillery and minor naval vessels in seven main buildings.

The site also stores the museum's collections of films, photographs, documents, books and artefacts. The site accommodates a number of British Army regimental museums, including those of the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Anglian Regiment

The brief
A heating, ventilation and humidity control solution was required for the refurbished and extended Hangar 1 at IWM Duxford. The hanger housed 30 British aircraft including Concorde. Appointed by consultant, Connell Mott MacDonald and working with M&E contractor, Aqua Mechanical and main contractor, Laing O’Rourke, we provided an HVAC solution bespoke to IWM.

The solution
We deployed six balanced Jet Environmental systems with our AHUs. These incorporated LPHW heating coils, space for future cooling coils and carbon filters to meet the exacting climate conditions of the museum.

Specific requirements:
CFD modelling of air flows for heating and cooling
air handling systems
LPHW heating coils
carbon filters
