Mezzanine temperature control
More and more warehouses are being constructed with mezzanines or alternatively these are being added to an existing warehouse once it’s been built.
Unfortunately although great attention is paid to the type of racking and MHE, little or no thought is given to the heating, or more importantly the ventilation of these areas.
The general consensus with warehouse operators seems to be that because the mezzanine is within a heated/ventilated space the air will find its way into these areas so consideration doesn’t need to be given to this problem.
However that is not the case.
With additional lighting, heat gain from MHE, and close proximity to the roof of the upper levels of mezzanine temperatures in summer can often be unbearable with cases of warehouse operative fainting with the heat.
It is often extremely difficult to retrofit ventilation or cooling systems in these areas once built and the environment is usually extremely congested with the items mentioned above.
